About the Panelists and Moderator

Michael Jackson: As Managing Principal, Mike focuses on tailored services for the Texas education market, including strategic leadership, market growth initiatives, state and district relationships, and advocacy at all levels.

Throughout his career, Mike has held V/C level sales and marketing positions in seed stage, growth stage, consulting firms and large education companies like School Specialty, iLearn, Focus Marketing and Education Market Experts. He specialized in expanding market presence, developing distribution channels, and creating competitive sales and marketing strategies to startup and global education companies. He also still serves as a trusted advisor in sales and marketing for leading ed-tech companies and serves on the SXSW Launch Advisory Panel and as a Start Ed Mentor.

With a personal connection to Texas, including raising his children in Texas public schools, Mike brings extensive knowledge of the Texas education market and a deep passion for the state.

Chad Cantella is a nonpartisan consultant specializing in lobbying, political strategy, public affairs, and business development. His extensive background encompasses federal, state, and local government as well as political campaigns. Chad is also a founding principal of the highly regarded lobby firm, Texas Star Alliance.

Throughout his career, Chad has successfully lobbied and consulted for a diverse range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies and national industry groups. He has particularly notable expertise in key policy areas such as education, healthcare, safety and security, criminal justice, and workforce. Some of his esteemed clients include Scholastic, Centegix, Kindercare, Powerschool, SAS, and the Texas Computer Education Association.

Dr. Kelli Erwin has been in the field for K-12 education for over 20 years as a classroom teacher, technology lab teacher, GT specialist and a district-level instructional specialist. In her role as Director of Education for Learning.com, she incorporates her years of experience along with new trends and pedagogical understanding to design and create learning experiences and support resources to meet the varying needs of students and teachers.

Gina Faulk has over 25 years of experience in publishing: both online and print. As General Manager for EdGate, she focuses on strategic business development, B2B and industry partnerships. She works closely with the EdGate team of professional educators, taxonomists, and developers to create solutions to help publishers expand their market. Today EdGate provides education standards and alignment services and SAAS to over 250 clients across all K-12 subjects.

Prior to working at EdGate, Gina held the position of Business Partner Manager at Learning.com, managing several state adoptions and forming partnerships with resellers, online content publishers, and LMS companies. Gina spent over ten years at Macmillan Publishing Solutions and at Interactive Composition Corporation as the U.S. Sales Director. During her tenure at Macmillan/ICC she formed key partnerships in many publishing sectors, including Higher Education, K-12, Professional, Trade, Legal, and Financial and Government. She was also the primary sales liaison between the U.S. office and several India-based Macmillan subsidiaries.

Rich Portelance is passionate about eEdTech and helping people discover pathways to successful careers. He leverages his many years of business experience in strategy, product development, brand creation and sales & marketing as a frequent industry speaker and sought after consultant.

Beginning his career in digital marketing and web development, Rich was recruited into the private, independent school market to help usher in digital technologies and social media. During this time, Richard served as a student advisor, and was nominated to serve on the CAIS (Connecticut Association of Independent Schools) Technology Commission. In 2012, Rich joined York & Chapel, a brand and digital transformation agency where he began working with secondary and higher ed clients, developing strategies for student engagement and pathway creation. In 2014 Richard founded CareerPath, a SaaS engagement platform.

Over the past ten years, Rich has given back to the industry as an advisor to numerous EdTech startups, and generally has had a blast doing what he loves to do — help others succeed.
