Rhode Island Common Core Standards were formally adopted July 1, 2010 by the Rhode Island Department of Education with full implementation in the 2013-2014 school year. As of February 2014, calls for delays or repeal have increased, with legislation introduced that would delay implementation.

Opposition to the Common Core Grows in Rhode Island

Rhode Island joined the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). In 2017 officials announced the would transition to using the PSAT/SAT and Massachusetts-based exams, allowing students to use the same online test platform as the PARCC assessments that they have grown accustomed to.
